MULTIPLEX-EU PROJECT
Global EU in a Multiplex World of Polycrisis – 101230493

Multiplex-EU explores how the European Union navigates today’s fragmented and crisis-driven global order. As overlapping crises (polycrisis) and growing complexity (multiplexity) reshape international relations, the project assesses the EU’s strategies for sustaining global influence through interregional partnerships, governance innovations, and engagement with the Global South.
Funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Programme (101230493), Multiplex-EU is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Emel Parlar Dal from the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Political Science, Marmara University, Istanbul.
From Interregionalism to Global Commons
We examine how the EU navigates a complex world: building inter-regional partnerships, adapting to a multiplex order, and shaping governance for shared global spaces.
Interregionalism
EU partnerships with regional organisations (e.g., ASEAN, MERCOSUR, AU) to manage crises and foster stability.
Multiplexity
EU strategies in a multi-centred order shaped by rising powers (e.g., BRICS) and competing visions of governance.
Global Commons
EU’s role in governing shared spaces—cyberspace, outer space, the seas, and polar regions—through rules and norms.
